RE: FL domicile?

Sorry for my post, didn't mean to start a fire, thought it was a fitting analogy.

RE: Can anyone explain???

Lets talk about ULSD for a second. the switch to ULSD was one of the reasons listed for increased fuel costs. I have no doubt that ULSD takes more refining to lower its sulfur content, hence more cost. However I doubt its much better (lower sulfur) than LSD till it gets to the consumer. ULSD is shipped in the same tankers, pipelines and holding facilities as LSD, HSD, Heating oil and even JP4. They don't clean these tanks between shipments. I'd bet that the sulfur content raises nearly to that of LSD during shipment and storage.

RE: FL domicile?

OK. Just sell that money-sucking house, and claim a bench at the city park (I mean - park at the nearest campground!). ===Sidebar=== Good luck! The house isn't so bad. Its the tax on the wages we earn. Even the property tax isn't that bad. For whatever reason when the government (PA state and fed) sees someone being successful they tax the hell out of them. I don't mind paying my fair share but it makes me VERY angry to see those who make less than me paying half (think percentage wise) as much as I do. I was talking with my tax guy the other day...he basically told my wife to quit working and me to stop working as much. How sad is that? We can pocket roughly the same amount of $$$ by working less?!!?? Its no wonder our economy is in such shambles. Wouldn't it sound logical to tax me at a more fair rate? Which would allow me to buy more things, which would stimulate the ecomomy? But NO, rest assured this year i'll just work less, pay less taxes and earn the same!?!? I know one thing, they won't be spending as many of my $$$ next year! I am only 30, no kids yet. While I am able (read no kids part) I bust my hump to make money. Every dime I can save I do save. I know full well that Social security won't be there for me, that money is just one more thing the feds rob from me. That being said I also know full well that that there will be things I will want in retirement. Which is why i am earning and saving NOW...so i can take care of me, something that apperently the govt doesn't want me to do. Sorry for the rant but its just VERY frustrating.

RE: FL domicile?

My last post wasn't as clear, I knew what i was tring to say. Sorry. what I was trying to say is i want to avoid PA income tax on wages earned in OTHER STATES, as well as unearned income. But it is my understanding (from reading the PA internal revnue site) that if one is required to file a pa return one must claim ALL wages even if earned out of state. Maybe i didn't understand the site...i'll have to ask my tax guy.

RE: Trouble getting RV financing

An RV isn't an unsecured loan. you are using the RV as collateral. Have you recently defaulted on anything? 60K isn't that much in the grander scheam of RVs. How about a down payment, are you putting anything down? i know my credit union won't go more than 80% Loan to Value (MSRP if new or NADA if used) on RV's. At any rate, I'd say it is still the bankruptcy that is holding you back. I don't know what your relationship is with your daughter. As a last resort perhaps she could buy it and finance it for you and you could make the payments to her. In order to keep your RV loan from effecting her borrowing power (think income to debt ratio) you could (on paper) pay rent to her for a room in her house. This should offset the debt with income. She MAY see some additional tax benifits by being a landlord AND having a 'second home', which would be your RV. Here again...i don't know what your situation is but there is always a way. BEST OF LUCK!

RE: FL domicile?

It seemed like a good idea but it appears that PA has closed all loopholes on this. Anyone who works in PA MUST pay PA income tax on those wages. Period. The biggest reason we would do it is to avoid PA income tax but if thats not possible so any financial gains would be pennies. I just have a problem paying income tax to a place where I use VERY few of the public services. ***flame on if you want, but unless you are paying these huge tax burdens too you wouldn't understand***

RE: High winds caused this.

The roof (rear section) of the TV is crushed, hope someone wasn't in there. I am going to referance this when someone says that you are "always safer" riding in the TV rather than the 5er. THis trailer held up very well!

RE: Spring Break 08... Where are you going?

Assateague Island, same as always. It will be cold, this i know. but there aren't many people there and its a good time to just GET AWAY for a few days. It could be worse...the first year my wife and i were married we did the trip and tent camped. The cold wasn't so bad but they only had cold water outdoor showers. on the 3rd day i couldn't take it anylonger...i NEEDED to get clean. I put my wetsuit (we kayak) on, heated water on the camp stove and bathed in my wet suit. OOOOO to be young and dumb again. Not to many women would have put up with 'vacationing' in such a way, I AM A LUCKY GUY. Gee i hope she reads this!

RE: Repairs made by someone other than dealer

I am a die hard DIYer. There are very few things that i wouldn't attempt to do on my own. any parts you need can be had from the INTERNET, usually at a reduced cost over what a local dealer would charge. Oh and with a great resource of RV experts (aka the forum) at your disposal pretty much any job should be doable

RE: FL domicile?

That was most helpful...after looking I guess it would not be of any benefit trying to claim FL residency, since I'd still owe PA taxes on my PA wages.

FL domicile?

We are considering caiming FL domicile. This is the catch...we work about 28 weeks/year and have a S&B house here in PA. Will that be a problem? We do spend much of the rest of the year in FL. Will the PA tax man be on our tail? Would it be worth it? any input would help

RE: See what you think of this combo...

Not sure...assuming they were figuring tanks full (who carries 1400# of water?) If thats ture that means they are only letting 1000#+or- for gear in the other models. I am guessing pin weight won't be a problem. Any load in the toybox would acutally reduce pin weight, which is 1650 to begin with. I doubt that even fully loaded it increases the pin weight to anywhere near 2400#. As I said, the dry weight is only 8100#, we never carry water waste or fresh(we haven't yet). Even if i want to keep it under 10K, I think that would be doable. even with 10K as a goal That gives us 1900# of packing room, much more than given by most trailers. Another way of looking at it is with our 500# ATV in the toybox it gives us about the same CCC as the other Sundance models. While still giveing about 1000# to play with (or haul water)to get to 11K. that being said...before our trip west we would be upgrading the TV to either an D/A or maybe an older 7.3 PSD. Now, does anyone know anything about heartland RV? Good stuff?

RE: Jayco 254 w/06 Nissan Pathfinder TV???

It will be a load, no doubt. If you are going to stay fairly close home i'd say you are OK. Remember, load the trailer NOT the TV. If you are planning a trip anywhere with mountains you will be going slow. BTW don't even consider towing without sway control.

RE: Silly question?

You will need to convert your flat four harness to a 7 pin. If your TV isn't already equiped for a 7pin harness (i don't think your Santa Fe is) You will need to do this B/C (most likely) its what your trailer will have. The lights will work much the same as they do with the flat four. But in order to get trailer brakes you will need to run a total of 4 new wires (plus grounds). You will need one from the TV battery to the brake controler. This one will power the brake controler. Second, you will need one from the TV battery to the 7pin harness in the rear of your TV. This one will charge the trailer battery. Next you will need a wire from the brake controler to the 7pin harness. this wire is your actual brake wire, it is most often blue in color. Last, or first (order isn't important) you will need a wire from the brake light switch on your TV to the brake controler. You will also need to run a ground to the brake controler, you should already have a ground for your flat four harness but MAKE SURE ITS A GOOD ONE, it wouldn't be a bad idea to run a wire from the battery - Neg to the 7 pin harness. Here is a diagram of how the wires go into the 7pin...http://www.marksrv.com/wiring.htm BTW...it wasn't a silly Q

RE: See what you think of this combo...

Yes, it is the 6.0 cheby, 4.10 gears. I know it maybe a load for the engine. But my 6000# TT i can tow up any mountain I have came across in PA, NY or WV as fast as i care to go (60+++). If I had to pull it over a mtn pass in @ 7000 feet elevation i may feel that it wouldn't be enough ponies. But I don't plan on making that trip for 5years, by which time the truck will be gone. Honestly, as long as i can keep up with the loaded big rigs that is fast enough IMHO. If i do decied its not enough motor its NOT a huge deal, the truck is paid for and COULD be traded for a D/A in the next few years. I'd like to get the NEW RV paid for(3~4 years) before I trade the truck so i only have one payment.

See what you think of this combo...

We are considering upgrading the trailer to something bigger. we have been going back and forth between TTs and 5ers. We are leaning toward 5ers B/C ease of setup, towing and how long the combo will be. our current set up is as long or longer than a 31' 5er combo, but our trailer is only 25'. Not normally much of an issue but travel by ferry would not be possible with a 30' TT. Anyhow, we have a 2500 Gasser. After all is said and done we can tow between 11000 and 11500#. The book saz 12,000# but I took 500~1000 off b/c of options and my large size. We are looking at Heartland 3300RC. its HERE It has GVWR of 13,600. But actually lighter (dry weight,8100#) than any of the other Sundancers. with the dry weight i could add 3000# and still be OK. The GVWR is high but my thought is that is for heavy 'toys' at MOST we would have a 500# ATV in there which still lets us 2500# for other gear. we NEVER travel with water and in our TT we only carry 900# of gear, even that is packed for a 3month trip.

RE: I messed up the Jayco Tongue Weight

Honestly, I'd replace it with something more HD. 99% sure you'd be ok with 'pushing' the old one. but seriously, you can pick a better one up for less than $200...that sounds like cheap insurance to me.

RE: Long Trips - Average Daily or Weekly Cost

For my wife and I we spend alittle less than $100/day. That is an average on our 7 week trip from here in PA to FL and back. Total mileage came in at 3000. @ 10 MPG and an avg of $3/gal we spent about $900 on fuel.
